Signs of Hurricane Matthew can still be seen all over Savannah, GA, from fallen trees to damaged roofs. In this episode of Port Talk, Ben Bluemle speaks about one of the most important aspects of being a homeowner: insurance.
Knowledge is Key
If you are confused by what your flood and homeowner’s insurance policies do and do not cover, ask your real estate agent! It is extremely important to have a clear understanding of your coverage. Do you have a fixed rate deductible, or a percentage deductible? There have been cases of percentage deductibles being as high as $20,000! If you understand your policy, it will be easier to be prepared and have your finances in place in case of a disaster like Hurricane Matthew damages your home.
Are you still suffering from tree damage to your home or to your property? Unfortunately, 99% of the time, when a tree falls on the lot, it is not going to be covered under your insurance. Ben recommends if you have many trees surrounding your properties, Ben recommends doing an additional inspection. Contact an arborist to inspect trees to protect your asset, and to budget additional money aside in closing costs to have any dangerous trees removed.
