Green Fire Pizza, located next to Woof Gang Bakery on Drayton in Downtown Savannah, opened it’s doors this past March. It has quickly become a popular hotspot that specializes in organic, wood-fired brick-oven pizza with a focus on fresh ingredients.
A revolving brick oven burning oak and pecan wood allows for crispy and light crust that is perfectly chewy. During our visit, the owner Russell Lee made his way to our table and sang the praises of the brick oven and his vision to turn this pizza joint into a neighborhood hangout that complements the business at McDonough’s across the street. Lee co-owns the Savannah institution, Mcdonough’s Restaurant and Bar, with his family. We could sense his excitement for his new venture in pizza and creating this new experience.
Green Fire Pizza is a European style café, where patrons order inside and then can enjoy a craft beer or glass of wine under the high top covered bars or one of the other several tables. Choose from one of the specialty pizzas, such as Pizza Alla Vodka or Arugula Blanca, or build your own from the variety of fresh toppings available.Despite the new hotel construction happening next door, the ambiance and fresh ingredients make Green Fire pizza worth visiting.
