The Savannah Bee Company is a long time favorite of Seaport Real Estate as a great spot to find unique, locally derived client gifts. Offering high quality honey food and beauty products, the Savannah Bee Company has exploded the niche honey market since owner Ted Dennard started selling his honey back in 1999. With several retail locations, from Charleston to Connecticut, and presence in other retail stores nationwide, the Savannah Bee Company has made it their mission to educate the public on all the amazing things that bees do for humans and their environment, and the importance of protecting honeybees everywhere.
A unique feature at the several Savannah Bee Company locations, including the Broughton Street location, is their mead tasting bar! For a small fee, visitors can taste six unique types of mead and learn about the creation process. Mead is an alcoholic beverage derived from fermenting honey with water, and sometimes other ingredients like fruit or hops. The alcohol content in mead ranges from 8% ABV to 20% ABV, so you may catch a little “buzz” during your tasting! The honey taste in mead is apparent but not overly strong, and there are semi-sweet, sweet, sparkling, and still varieties to choose from – all available to purchase in-store. The “bartender” behind the mead bar is incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the different types of mead, making the experience as educational as it is enjoyable.
If you are in the Savannah area, we highly recommend visiting The Savannah Bee Company on Broughton Street for a mead tasting, guaranteed to turn a novice mead drinker into a bee-liever!
